Do you have goals that you're hoping to accomplish but finding it hard to follow through? Or, you just can't seem to let go of a habit that's inhibiting you from starting? This blog will provide simple steps that you can follow to hold yourself accountable and hit your goals.

Self-Accountability

Self-accountability is holding yourself responsible for your actions and choices. Your growth is solely dependent on your words, actions, decisions, and mindset. Yet, how many times have you held others responsible for your choices?

Allowing yourself to examine your inner being to find faults and then take ownership of them is hard but, is necessary for success. Self-accountability is a skill but can be learned with discipline and consistency. Here are some tips to become self-accountable (ps, you can do it).

  • Own responsibility for your actions, 100% of the time (even if you aren't necessarily at fault). It just makes things easier for you rather than putting the blame on others. This allows you to move on more quickly rather than be stuck.
  • Create goals that are definite, clear, important, and with no red tape. This makes your goals seem less daunting. With less clutter, the goal can be a straight path rather than a curvy one.
  • If a goal feels daunting, start off small then pursue more challenging goals. Starting off with goals that seem more "realistic" to you and easier to accomplish will make the larger goals easier to reach. Make small victories and those small victories will increase your confidence.
  • Develop a road map for each specific goal. Create steps on your journey that can be marked off once completed. Eliminates the feeling of being overwhelmed. The more steps, the better.
  • Consistently record and evaluate your progress. Make changes as needed. Monitor through a calendar, checklist, journal. Be real with yourself and critical, if needed. Self-accountability isn't easy. This is all for you.
  • Persist through obstacles and be willing to consider other options to reach your endpoint. Stay calm. This part can be hard but, flexibility needs to be allowed. Obstacles are meant to challenge you. Accept it. Sit down, scrutinizing the obstacle, and develop a new map around or through the obstacle.
  • Give yourself a reward once a goal is reached. You did this. Be proud and celebrate your achievement.

For every action that you take, examine how it will benefit or negatively impact you. Be truthful with yourself and with others. Don't make excuses but make improvements, even if it's hard. You have within you everything you need to deal with the challenges around you, to pursue excellence- you just need to believe in yourself.
