Age is just a Number

At 12pm most days, you'll see Jim. At 69 years old, he's one of our oldest members. With a facetious attitude, great work ethic, and hint of stubbornness, he always gives his best effort in class-regardless of the workout and you'll never hear him complain. Furthermore, with the way that he moves, you wouldn't know that he was that old. Whenever I have him in class, he brings with a refreshing demeanor and older mindset that strikes up intriguing conversations; lots of laughs too. Jim is an inspiring individual and at the age of 23, I truly hope that I can be as mobile as him when I'm his age. When asked if he'd be willing to share some information about himself, there was no hesitation. He's pretty much an open book.

What brought you to the Machine Shed?

I knew Jake Arvold and his family. (For those that don't know, Jake Arvold used to coach/co-own the Machine Shed before moving to work for the company, 1st Phorm).

What do you like about the Shed?

I like the laid back atmosphere and the coaching staff's hands-on concern for each person.

What motivates you to keep coming in? Current and future goals?

At my age the need to "use it or lose it" is real. I would like to lose some weight and increase my core strength.

Tell me a little bit more about you outside of the gym

Being retired my life has slowed down considerably. I do need to find more activities to get me off the couch.

In conclusion, your body is truly capable of more than you think. Just because you get older doesn't mean that you shouldn't continually challenge yourself; mentally and physically. Instead, push your limits, get uncomfortable, and come try CrossFit.
