A Family Affair

A leap of faith, if you will, turned into consistency. Now a habit turned into a family affair. Kasey and Geoff were a part of our first 5 am Bootcamp. Three days per week for 8 weeks. Throughout that entire camp, they were always there; smiles on their faces, ready to rock- even if the workout was burpees.

Since then, both Geoff and Kasey have been consistent members at our 12 pm or 4:30 pm classes (pre-quarantine) and now are still consistent members but at our "Noon Zoom" classes. But, that's not the only reason why I wanted to write a blog on them.

Thus, without further adieu, let's learn more about Geoff and Kasey.

1. What brought you to the Machine Shed?

Geoff had a membership to a gym and I ran with a friend a few days a week. Geoff and I couldn't work out together because he runs faster than me, doesn't want to work on the same body areas as me, and so we always worked out separately in order to get a workout. When we tried to work out together, it did not meet both our needs. We saw the CrossFit BootCamp- only an 8-week commitment, and thought, we can try to work out together and meet our own goals.

2. What do you like about the Machine Shed?

I like that you are not anonymous. People expect me to show up and are excited to push me to my next goal. The people are not all "perfect body" people, I don't feel intimidated when I go in, I feel inspired by watching everyone on their own journey. Geoff likes that it is a great workout and it is a group activity.

3. What motivates you to keep coming in? Current and future goals?

We feel good after a workout. Sometimes we are amazed that our bodies were able to accomplish the workouts that seem so difficult.

4. What else should members know about you?

Geoff and I will be celebrating our 15 year wedding anniversary this October and this is one of our favorite hobbies to do together. Our son, Frankie, is big into hockey and we are trying to model a foundation of daily movement in order to be strong and healthy. He needs to know you have to work at being healthy, but it can be fun! Our daughter, Hazel, was diagnosed with Leukoencephalopathy with Brain Stem and Spinal Cord Involvement with Elevated Lactate (LBSL), a rare neurological disorder. This causes her to slowly lose the ability to walk and coordinate movements. Since this diagnosis, our family does not take the ability to move for granted. She motivates us daily!!

In conclusion, if you're looking for a reason to start something new- eating healthier, exercising, even daily walks, the motivation to begin may not be too far away.
